Having a blast at RT!

Here in Houston and busy running around. I’ve met a lot of fans, some of my editors and some old friends from all around the country. Plane ride out was bumpy on account of the tornadoes and a storm front, but today was beautiful.

I promised you some pictures and here they are!

    Guilty Pleasures Monday

I decided to try my hand at an action-packed romantic suspense and started thinking about what the hero would be like. He’s going to be thirtyish, an Army CID officer and really sexy. For some reason, cowboy types came to mind. Maybe it’s that I’m headed to Houston for the RT Convention.

Immediately after that, the inspiration for the hero and this Monday’s Guilty Pleasure burst into my mind! Here’s a clue to the right.

Can you guess who it is? Read the rest of this entry

My friend Marta Acosta has an awesome blog called THE BITING EDGE together with Mario Acevedo and Jeanne Stein. All three are fiction writers who’ve written vampire novels — just the kind of thing I love!

Marta was kind enough to interview me for THE BITING EDGE, so please drop by, check out the interview and the great blog!

Fashion Friday - Tips for Writers

Fashion is the last thing I think about when I sit down to write. If you’ve seen SECRET WINDOW with Johnny Depp, you know what I am like when I write at home. I roll out of bed, grab my favorite sweater and slip it on. I go make a huge put of coffee, prepare a large cup of it, turn on the television and pick a movie/show and then plop on the couch to write.

Thoughtful Thursday - A Reluctant Road Warrior

cartoon_car.gifCounting down the minutes until it’s time to hit the road for not only the RT Convention, but a legal convention right afterward. So, my mind is filled with thoughts about becoming a Reluctant Road Warrior and I decided to offer some helpful and humorous advice. Read the rest of this entry

Wicked Wednesday - Wounded Heroes and BLOOD CALLS

There’s something wickedly interesting about wounded heroes. You know they’ve either been bad or have had something bad happen to them which makes them all that much more intriguing. Will they stay good or become bad again? Can they be trusted? So many more questions and things that you can do with them.

BLOOD CALLS is definitely all about wounded heroes. Diego Rivera was a Spanish Lord before his wife betrayed him to the Spanish Inquisition because he had been selfish and unfaithful. Ramono Escobar has had a hard life, including a stint in juvenile detention when she got mixed up with the wrong crowd after the death of her father and her mother’s illness.

Prayers for Virginia Tech and Some Thoughts on Gun Control

First of all, my prayers and sympathy for everyone who has suffered pain or loss at Virginia Tech.

As parents, we send our children to school with the belief that they will be safe there, but time and time again incidents such as these remind us that those expectations may not be accurate.

    Fix-up Friday!

No, you are not going crazy. There were posts the last two days only the server migration that I thought was over wasn’t and they’ve disappeared into the ether of cyberspace.

These things happen, so I’m going to try and recreate the posts today and tomorrow.

Wicked Wednesday was all about DESIRE CALLS, the free novella that’s up at eharlequin.com right now (you can click here to start the read!)

Tuesday Tip - Creating a Rotating Banner

I’ve been asked this question a lot lately and thought I’d share this tip with you. It’s actually really easy to create a rotating banner or a rotating series of book covers/images.

Best of all, it’s free! Why do you need to do this as a writer? Publicity and Promotion. It’s not enough to write a good book anymore. You need to know how to promote. For those of you who may be attending the NJRW Conference in October, Lisa Renee Jones and I will be doing a workshop titled Promo or Perish during which we will discuss the many avenues of promotion that writers should consider.

Gulity Pleasures Monday - Daniel Dae Kim

First of all, I hope you all enjoyed your virtual vacation with me! If you dropped me a comment and I didn’t answer, please forgive me but I was surfing on borrowed bandwidth and it was sometimes hard to keep track of all the e-mails and comments.

It’s back to work after vacation Monday, which means I need a double dose of Guilty Pleasure.

This Monday, I’m going for someone totally exotic — Daniel Dae Kim! You may recognize him from LOST. Read the rest of this entry

Happy Easter and Rome - The Final Days

rabbit.jpgFirst of all, a very Happy Easter to everyone. I hope you will have a wonderful day and maybe enjoy some of that Pizza Rustica I had mentioned earlier. It’s freezing cold in New Jersey, so we’ll have to bundle up to have that Easter Egg hunt.

Yes, we’re back at home, but later on in this post there’s a last little bit on our wonderful trip to Rome.

Being here has so filled my head with a flavor for ancient Rome! I’ve been able to finish the first draft of FATE CALLS, the Christmas vampire book thanks to the trip, but here’s a question for you -

What do you think is a sexier name: Hadrian or Adriano?

Let me know and you may find yourself in the dedication to this next novella.

    Rome Day 4 - Exhausto

I don’t think you need to know Italian to know what that word means. Way tired, but enjoying all the different sights.

Today we did some shopping. Nothing fancy, mostly walking around and checking out all the stores near the Spanish Steps. Got a few hairy eyeballs from the salespeople at DIOR and those ultra-expensive shops. By contrast, the people at D&G were quite friendly and we bought a little something.

Weirdest thing we did today — visit the Crypt of the Capuchin Monks where they decorated the altars, etc. with human bones. Macabre to the max! For more on this, you can click here to check out their official site (Make sure to use the link to THE CRYPT).

Here’s some more pictures for you!

Rome Day 3 - Ancient Rome

The word today was STEPS as in up and down lots of them and “Watch out for that step!” We started off by going to the Catacombs of San Callisto and checking out where over 500,000 Romans were buried.

Rome Day 2 - The Vatican

The word for today was LINES! Long long lines. We spent nearly 4 hours in lines! The first line was to get into St. Peter’s itself. Just over an hour, but we got to see so many things. Here’s some of them:

Rome Day 1 - Palm Sunday

Buon Giorno from Roma on a beautiful Palm Sunday! We’re here enjoying the sights and doing a little research for SECRET AGENT REUNION and my December holiday vamp story.

Rome is amazing! We’ve been walking all day and getting the lay of the land. Our hotel is within about 2 miles of most of Rome’s wonders.

We started today by going to Palm Sunday Mass after we checked in. We were able to see the Pope. From there we hit a local flea market, an assortment of churches (there’s one on every corner and even the local churches are wonderful), piazzas, the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, the Forum and Colliseum. We didn’t go into the bigger monuments as we plan on doing those on different days, as well as the Vatican grounds.

Here’s some pictures from our first day!
