Fashion Friday — Back to Normal?

Bryant Park in the Morning LightCan it be back to normal when the Mets lost and the man who helped put them in a dead heat with the Phillies was named . . . Pineiro. Yep, the pitcher was Joel Pineiro. Don’t know if he’s any relation, but it’s not a common name so maybe. Read the rest of this entry

Wicked Wednesday - A Sexy South Beach Mama

polo.jpgIf you have ever had the opportunity to see a polo match (or one of pato which I was able to see in Argentina) you know how exciting it is to see an excellent rider atop a horse. The power, skill and strength that’s necessary to do this is well . . . Read the rest of this entry

Tuesday Tip - Lois Winston’s Raspberry Expresso Cake

LOVE, LIES AND A DOUBLE SHOT OF DECEPTIONTime for a tasty treat this Tuesday. This wonderful recipe comes courtesy of my friend and fellow author, Lois Winston, whose latest release is LOVE, LIES AND A DOUBLE SHOT OF DECEPTION. Besides being an award-winning writer - did I mention her latest book is nominated for a Golden Leaf award?– Lois is an amazing artist who went to art school and has had a fairly successful career as a writer and designer in the consumer crafts industry, designing craft and needlework projects for kit manufacturers as well as magazine and book publishers. Guilty Pleasures Monday - Ben Affleck

Ben Affleck Ben Affleck gets a bum rap. I’m convinced it all has to do with Gigli and that Bennifer incident a few years back. I first noticed him in SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE (one of my all time favorite movies with another cutie — Joseph Fiennes). Then came DAREDEVIL (which I kind of liked, but then again, I love comic book heroes) and I thought again, I like his looks and he’s got that little boy grin and twinkle in his eye. I was hooked. Thoughtful Thursday - The Creative Process Caught by the Cameras

This wonderful little video clip was sent to me by one of my editors, who found it to be hilarious and I couldn’t agree more! I was rolling on the floor laughing my ass off (ROFLMAO for those who do not have teenage kids and wondered what that Acronym meant). Read the rest of this entry

Wicked Wednesday - Apples, the Not-so-Amazings and the Amazon

Golden Apple AwardLast night I picked up my Golden Apple Award for Author of the Year! It was so exciting and totally spectacular to receive this honor in front of so many friends and industry professionals. My wonderful editors, Stacy Boyd and Jessica Alvarez, were present as was Mavis Allen, another delightful editor from Harlequin. The New York City Romance Writers Chapter did an amazing job with their hospitality and the goodies they had for us to nosh on. Here’s a picture of the award I got, along with a beautiful certificate created by my friend and fellow writer, Patt Mihailoff. Read the rest of this entry

Tuesday Tip - A Cuba Libre

Bacardi Ad from 1950sCuba has been on my mind lately, maybe because of the Chicas. Maybe because one of my Cuban writing friends e-mailed me a week or so ago to say that the lines from Miami to NJ were buzzing about Castro’s death. (FYI — NJ has the second largest population of Cubans in the U.S.)

Unfortunately, Castro’s death wasn’t confirmed by anyone, but the thought of a Cuba finally free of the old dictator has lingered in my brain. A free Cuba — Cuba Libre. Read the rest of this entry

Silly Saturday - Only in the Romance World

NJ Romance Writers at Red Bank FairLast Sunday, we spent a hot but delightful day at the Red Bank Street Fair. Here’s a shot of the intrepid writers from NJ Romance Writers who attended the fair. We had a great time, sold lots of books and handed out fliers for NJRW’s Annual Literacy Fair on October 6th at the Sheraton in Woodbridge. NJRW has over 90 published authors signing. The fair is from 4:00 to 5:30 and is open to the general public. For more info on the book fair, click here! Come meet us and remember — a portion of the profits go to stamp out illiteracy in NJ. Fashion Friday - Finally gone . . .

Finishing up Fashion WeekWell, maybe not totally gone. The tents are down, most of the generators are gone and they’ve begun to disassemble the rest. This is what Bryant Park looked like this morning.

Now, I know the NYT says that most New Yorkers don’t mind losing the park for a week or two, but I for one don’t listen to a thing the NYT says anyway. Read the rest of this entry

Thoughtful Thursday - About Changes and Dead Sharks

shark.jpg“A relationship, I think, is like a shark. You know, it has to constantly move forward or it dies. I think what we have on our hands is a dead shark.” –Alvy Singer (Woody Allen) to Annie Hall (Diane Keaton)(quote courtesy of Rotten Tomatoes) Read the rest of this entry

September 11th

Never Forget 911Yes, it’s Tuesday Tip day and also, the release date of SOUTH BEACH CHICAS CATCH THEIR MAN, but all of that is inconsequential in light of the fact that it’s September 11th. Nothing has ever been the same for me since that day in 2001. I’ve seen a number of articles in the papers recently about how the remembrance ceremonies are diminishing and the day is becoming more of a historical one. Read the rest of this entry

Guilty Pleasures Monday - Hugh Laurie

photo courtesy of April 2007 Vogue MagazineHot men come in all ages so today’s Guilty Pleasure is an older man — Hugh Laurie. Most of us know him as House, but for many people, they’ve been watching him in assorted films and shows on the BBC.

There’s something about those blue eyes, rugged look and scruffy beard that is just too attractive. Even my daughter thinks so, confirming the attraction is not limited to us over thirty-year olds.

What do you think? Can you picture Hugh starring in a future novel?

Tuesday Tip - Crazy Cinnamon

abuela.jpgWhenever I had a cold, my grandma, abuelita Nieves (that’s me with my grandma and who I am also named after in part as my whole first name is Caridad de las Nieves) used to make me a special drink that always managed to make me feel better. She would scald some milk with stick cinnamon and afterward, add honey. Once I drank it down, I’d feel it chasing that cold away and fall fast asleep. To this day, that is my most effective cold remedy. Read the rest of this entry
