Well, if you're determined to blow 4 million, the proceeds going to go to charity anyway. Then you get a book like that out of the deal plus all the tax benefits of the donation and the asset value of the rare book, not to mention the marketing value of a book seller owning such a rare and valuable piece, sounds to me like a shrewd business decision on the part of Amazon.

I'd much rather pay an author a million dollars (especially since it's going to charity) than say a football player or a movie star.

Hola, Caridad,

I'm just back from church where our parish is hosting a holiday gathering for the residents of a group of shelter homes. Yesterday, our Social Concerns group distributed 100 food and toy baskets to families in need. We have a weekly food pantry. Our archdiocese daily assists those who come to them with all types of concerns. Our city
took in thousands of Katrina victims.
If I only had four million dollars just
sitting around "gathering dust"! Can you
imagine how many people St. Matthew's
could help? People who just flat out
could use assistance to feed and clothe
their children and keep a roof over their
heads. That's where my spare four
million would go! I'll now climb down
off my soapbox!!

God's blessings to all His children,
