Guilty Pleasures Monday - Sylvester Stallone

Courtesy Myspace Movie Posters Picture CodesI remember the first ROCKY movie and how so many of us were madly in love with Sylvester Stallone. There was something so earthy, endearing and sexy about him. And all those muscles!! Definitely an Italian Stallion.

The first ROCKY movie was the stuff of which legends are made in the movie industry. It was shot on a very low budget and with an untried star who also happened to have written the movie. The film became a sleeper box office hit, was nominated for 10 Academy Awards and won 3, including Best Movie and Best Director, but not Best Actor or Screenplay for Sylvester Stallone.

ROCKY spawned a number of sequels, some which arguably jumped the shark. But, I did get a chance to see the latest sequel, ROCKY BALBOA, and it was wonderful. Had a lot of the heart of the first movie and if you get a chance, watch it!

And if you haven’t seen the original or it’s been awhile, make sure to to do so. It’s a film classic and yes, Stallone is rather amazing looking before he gets all beat up.

As an aside, next time you’re in Philadelphia, join the hundreds who’ve dogged up the steps of the Philadelphia Art Museum and have yourself a ROCKY moment! Have I done it? Well, maybe . . . LOL!

Guilty Pleasures Monday - Aaron Eckhart

I have to confess that the first time I saw him, I was not sure if I found him handsome, but the more and more I see him, the more I find him attractive.

I just caught him over the weekend in NO RESERVATIONS which didn’t do all that well at the box office. I remember the movie being billed as kind of a romantic comedy and even the posters and covers for the movie (shown below) make it seem lighthearted and it was anything but that.

Copyright Warner Bros. Used under Fair Use Provisions

Could be why it didn’t do well. No one wants to go see a romantic comedy and have it be a serious movie. BUT — I liked the movie. It was quite touching in parts and Aaron was downright sexy. I wanted to see more of him and Catherine, but the director kept on closing the door every time that it was starting to get romantic. NOT!!! Especially if it’s supposed to a romance. But again, I would recommend it.

Here’s an interview with him about his role in THE DARK KNIGHT, the latest Batman movie:

Guilty Pleasures Monday - Pierce Brosnan

Copyright 20th Century Fox - used under Fair Use Provisions - Click here to purchase the DVDsI was pondering who to share with you this morning and realized I hadn’t shared one of my favorites! So today’s Guilty Pleasure Monday is Pierce Brosnan. I first fell in love with him in a television movie series called The Manions (I believe). It was a story about the Irish and he was just so good looking.

Then one day I’m flipping through the channels and there he is again as Remington Steele! Heaven, I’m in heaven. I loved this show and the chemistry with him and Stephanie Zimbalist was wonderful. Hopeful romantic that I am, I kept on hoping they’d get together. I bought the first season on DVD and enjoyed watching it again.

When there was talk of needing a new Bond, it immediately occurred to me that Pierce would be the perfect Bond and so did the producers! Unfortunately, when Pierce was chosen as the new Bond, NBC decided to renew Remington Steele (which had been cancelled). This cost Pierce the role at that time. A shame since it would have been great to have more of him as James Bond.

Hope you enjoyed this Guilty Pleasure Monday! Also, don’t forget to check back on August 26th for a special blog by Lisa Jackson! I have autographed books, t-shirts and other goodies from Lisa to award to anyone who drops by that day and leaves a comment on the blog.

Guilty Pleasures Monday - Jonas Brothers

Jonas Brothers! This was taken after the House of Blues Concert 2007 Atlantic CityWHOA! I’m back and boy am I beat! I had a great time at the conference and will be writing about it a little more later in the week once I get my feet back on the ground.

But now, it’s time to get back into the swing of things ‘cuz I’ve really missed you all! With it being Monday, you know what it is — Guilty Pleasures and this Monday, it’s a Guilty Pleasure for the young and those who are young at heart. Welcome to Jonas Brothers Monday!!

This is a picture of the Jonas Brothers with my daughter after a House of Blues concert back in late 2007. Back then, we’d seen them a few times in concert and got to meet them afterward. Very cute, polite and lovely young men. We’ve seen them in concert recently and on Friday, we’ll be seeing them again out at the Jones Beach theater. For those of you brave enough to take a chance, they’ll also be the free concert this Friday at Bryant Park as part of the Good Morning America concert series.

Why brave enough? Well, anyone with a young daughter will understand this — If the military could somehow recreate the sound of a young teen’s idol screech, they’d have the most effective weapon ever devised. LOL!

Seriously though. The Jonas Brothers are talented, cute and seem like a great bunch of kids. If you haven’t checked them out, do so or visit your local Disney store for all the CAMP ROCK stuff. The middle brother - Joe (the one right next to my daughter in the picture) - was the lead in that made-for-TV movie. Also look for a behind the scenes tour video on Disney as well as a show with all three brothers in the fall, I believe.

Hope you enjoyed today’s Guilty Pleasure Monday.

Guilty Pleasures Monday - Clint Eastwood

DIRTY HARRY Copyright Warner Bros. Used under Fair Use ProvisionsI’m back!  Well, not really since for most of this week I’ll be in San Francisco for the RWA National Conference.  I’ll be reporting and updating you on all the goings on at the conference and on the trip.

As I was thinking of San Francisco and today’s Guilty Pleasure, it made me think –

Do I feel lucky?  LOL!  Yes, it only seems right that this Monday’s Guilty Pleasure is none other than Clint Eastwood!  With his trademark cold-eyed squint and slight sneer, Eastwood created a character that is a movie legend and lines that have become part of our culture.

I always found Clint to be ruggedly handsome and so I’m sharing him with you today!  If you haven’t seen the DIRTY HARRY movies, they are not to be missed.  Action, old-fashioned police work (before the fancy CSI gadgetry) and of course, sexy Clint.

Make my day, Clint.  Even at 78 you’re still amazing!

Guilty Pleasures Monday - Eric Stromer

Copyright Eric Stromer - Available for Download at the Site - Used under Fair Use ProvisionsI first caught sight of this hunk on CLEAN SWEEP. I got hooked on that show and it really helped me get my house in order! Eric Stromer was the carpenter on the show and he was cute, funny, talented and wow — He’s just too sexy.

Eric now has a show on DYI — OVER YOUR HEAD — where he rescues homeowners who have tackled projects that were a little too much for them.

Hmm . . . I’m pretty good with a hammer and saw. I think it’s time to add that new wing to the house!

Guilty Pleasures Monday - Michael Pare

Copyright Embassy Pictures - Used under the Fair Use ProvisionsIf the smoldering look on this handsome face doesn’t have you melting, I don’t know what to say.

His name is Michael Pare and the film is EDDIE AND THE CRUISERS. If you haven’t seen the movie, find it and buy it! The music is great as is the story, although the movie got mixed reviews and did not do well at the box office. Don’t know why, I watch it every time that it’s on and if I see the DVD anywhere, will definitely add it to my collection.

Michael is so absolutely hot as the tortured New Jersey rock star who wants to be understood. Totally totally hot. He’s been in a number of other B movies, but I haven’t seen much of him lately although he still looks good! Tom Berenger is also in the movie — another hottie and quite good in his role as the “poet” guy who puts the words to the music.

You can find out more about Michael by clicking here and visiting his official website!

Guilty Pleasures Monday - Keanu Reeves

Copyright 20th Century Fox - Used under Fair Use ProvisionsYes, he was adorably surfer dude in Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, but I couldn’t last through the first of the MATRIX movies.

My favorite of all time with him is A WALK IN THE CLOUDS. This was a totally romantic movie set in California’s wine country. The cinematography was amazing and the story touching on various levels. It’s worthy buying and you can get it at Target for under $10 (probably even for $5).

Some say he’s wooden at times, but when he lets loose that little boy grin, he’s totally sexy and there’s something earnest about him with those big brown eyes.

Also — don’t forget SPEED with another of my faves, Sandra Bullock. That was an action-packed movie and Sandra and Keanu had great sexual tension.

For more info on Keanu, click here!

Here’s a great retrospective from November86 at YouTube!

Guilty Pleasures Monday - Sam Elliott

Poster courtesy of WIKI and Copyright of Paramount Pictures - Used under the Fair Use Provisions for comment on the actor and movieI guess a weekend “down the shore” as Jersey folk say has me thinking of lifeguards which got me to remembering the movie LIFEGUARD with Sam Elliott, a real hottie in his day.

You can click here for more about Sam Elliott, but you’ll be amazed by how many movies and television shows he’s done. For me, he always had the kind of cowboy/military ruggedly handsome look.

Now, don’t think that LIFEGUARD is a fluff kind of movie. It is surprisingly, a rather complex and intriguiging look at a man who is questioning his life and all that he enjoys because of the pressure of others, including a possible romantic interest in the form of Anne Archer. If you can find this movie on TV or buy the video, it’s worth watching.

I’d put Sam Elliott in the same category as Tom Selleck and Mark Harmon - they’ve all matured perfectly!!

Guilty Pleasure Monday - Brad Pitt

This image or file is a work of a U.S. Air Force Airman or employee, taken or made during the course of the person's official duties. As a work of the U.S. federal government, the image or file is in the public domain. From WikipediaIt had to finally happen. I couldn’t keep on ignoring Brad Pitt, especially considering how great he looked in TROY. Didn’t like his character very much, but you can’t argue with the fact that he was ripped for that movie.

Then of course, there was the first time many of us laid eyes on him in THELMA & LOUISE. Wow! He was so amazing. I wondered, “Who is this guy and where can I see him next?”

I’ve often thought that he resembles Robert Redford a lot and that was quite apparent in SPY GAME. The similarities between the two men was absolutely amazing!

Also, I really like Mr. & Mrs. Smith. I thought it was a great romantic comedy/spy/action/black comedy. You get it. A mix of a lot of things, which actually may have turned some people off. Also — little known fact. When I was asked about the cover for MORE THAN A MISSION, I said, how about something like the poster for Mr. & Mrs. Smith and here’s what I got!

MORE THAN A MISSION - August 2007

I loved the knife on the thigh!

Hope you liked this Monday’s Guilty Pleasure.

Guilty Pleasure Monday - Michael Weatherly

Photo from CBS Home Page for NCISToday’s Guilty Pleasure Monday is sexy Michael Weatherly from the hit CBS show NCIS (one of my favorites!). I love his quirky character, Tony DiNozzo, but I hated that they killed off the first female NCIS agent since the sexual tension with them was great. They’ve been trying to build it again with Ziva, the Moussad agent working with NCIS. It’s a great show and Mark Harmon is still pretty hot as well. Check it out! The 2 hour season finale is May 20 - this Tuesday and looks like it will be awesome.

You may also remember Michael from DARK ANGEL where he starred with Jessica Alba.

Here’s a trailer with a sneak peak of the big season finale on Tuesday, May 20th:

Wicked Wednesday - A Return To South Beach

Click Here for more info on SOUTH BEACH CHICAS CATCH THEIR MANThe weather here is finally starting to warm, reminding me of Spring Break nights in South Beach, before the heat and humidity of a Miami summer make it unpleasant.

With such thoughts running through my brain (and me wanting to ask my boss if I can sit outside and work!), I figured it was time for a quick trip back to South Beach.

This little excerpt is about Virginia and Pablo, Sylvia’s parents who are in the throes of their own romance during the course of the SOUTH BEACH CHICAS CATCH THEIR MAN novel. The original version contained a lot more background about their early romance, but it was just too much to include. I am very thankful, however, that my editors loved the idea of showing a vital fortysomething woman coming to grips with a lost love.

These scene is in SOUTH BEACH CHICAS CATCH THEIR MAN and I hope you enjoy it!

warning.jpg

The night progressed leisurely, with the two of them talking, mostly about the villa and the renovations, and sharing the delicious meal and of course, Pablo’s wine. She was almost sorry when Pablo took away the dishes for the dessert, since she hated for the interlude to end.

“This has been lovely,” she said, fiddling with her napkin as it sat on the tabletop.

He covered her hand with his. “Who says the night is over?”

As he twined his fingers with hers, he stood and she went with him, following him to the lower landing of the patio near the water. She realized there was a small boombox on the side railing of the veranda.

Pablo detoured by there only long enough to turn it on and adjust the volume until the low melodious tones of the music drifted through the night. With an impatient tug on her hand, he led her to the center of the landing.

Virginia stumbled a bit on one of the slabs, but Pablo caught her in his arms.

“I must have that fixed,” he said as he wrapped his arms around her waist and brought her close.

“Yes, of course. Fix it,” she replied, although she was grateful for the floor’s rather timely intervention since left to her own devices, she would definitely not be pressed to his hard body and that would have truly been a shame.

She laid her head against his chest and swayed with him to the nearly indistinct sounds of the music. The low bass beats carried through the night air, slightly louder. Or maybe it was the beat of her heart. Of his. Low and steady. Close against her breast.

He moved one hand up and placed it in the middle of her back. His skin hot. The roughness of it enticing.

She picked up her head and met his gaze. His eyes seemed an even darker green in the dim light, but his smile was brilliant as he asked, “Are you having a nice time?”

With a nod, she said, “Very nice. There’s only one thing that might make it even nicer.”

His smile broadened and he dipped his head until his lips were only an inch from hers. “De verdad? And what would that be?”

She raised herself on tiptoe, eliminating that final inch of distance. With a whisper against his lips, she said, “This.”

The kiss began innocently enough, with the simple meeting of their lips. Followed by another kiss and then another until they were straining toward each other, hungry for more.

“Maybe it’s time we went somewhere — “

“More private?” she said and without missing a beat, snagged his hand and led him back toward the limo, where Pablo asked the driver to take them for a ride around town.

He helped her into the back seat, slipped in beside her and immediately put up the privacy screen. After, he reached for her and eased her onto his lap where once again, they resumed the kiss.

Virginia opened her mouth to his, accepted the thrust of his tongue. He tasted like his wine and the sweet berries they had shared for dessert. In between kisses, she said, “Sylvia warned me about this.”

“Really? But who kissed who first, amorcito?” he teased and worked his way to the edge of her mouth and then down to the crook of her neck and shoulder.

She held his head to her, shuddered as he sucked there and then soothed the spot with a kiss. “That feels good.”

“Hmm. I’d like to feel that, too,” he confessed and with clumsy fingers, she undid his tie and shirt collar, bent her head and sucked on him.

His skin was salty. Undeniably masculine. The muscles of his upper shoulder firm. She bit down and he groaned, slipped his hand to the middle of her back and urged her closer.

But the only way to accomplish that was to straddle his legs, which she did, bringing the hard length of his erection to nestle between her legs.

She paused at the pressure of him there and looked down at him. “You do have protection, don’t you? I promised Sylvia I’d be responsible.”

Pablo chuckled and laid his hands at her waist, keeping her hips immobile. “I’ve heard it said that children get in the way of romance. I just never thought it would happen quite like this.”

Virginia laughed and cradled his face in her hands. “Is this a romance or are we two sad, old people grasping at our youth?”

The mirth on Pablo’s face softened, but didn’t completely recede. With care and patience, he slipped his hand beneath the edge of her dress. Slowly moved upward until he was cupping her naked breast in his hand. Her nipple beaded immediately and he smiled at that.

“Old? I’ve always heard that a woman in her forties is at her prime sexual peak.” As if to emphasize his point, he grasped the tip of her nipple and gently caressed it, drawing a gasp from her.

“It seems that may be right,” he said . . .

Guilty Pleasure Monday - Jesse L. Martin

Image Courtesy of NBC.com - LAW & ORDER Episode Photos - GOOD FAITH EpisodeSeems apropo to bring you Jesse L. Martin this Monday since last week was Martin’s final episode on the long-running Law & Order show. Always elegant and professional, Martin’s presence on the show helped soothe the loss of Jerry Orbach. Martin and Orbach were perfect together and both will be sorely missed.

As for whether Martin is hot . . . Well, I always thought he was a totally sexy man and so did many of my friends! There’s just something so silently sensual about his look and the way he moves . . .

Besides being a hottie, Martin is an accomplished actor who has been on numerous shows and was also one of the original cast members of the popular Broadway show RENT. He reprised his role in the recently released film version of that show.

Here’s a clip from that final show courtesy of the NBC website!

Guilty Pleasure Monday - Adrian Paul . . . again

Adrian and me!Sorry to not have given you a Fun Friday, but I’ve been swamped with both legal and writing work!! Plus, I’m off to RT. Hey Gretchen, there’s that picture of me and Adrian (NOT!)(although I am probably that short compared to him!).

I will try to get a picture for you, but as I mentioned, they are charging for that meal so I’ll have to stalk the corridors, waiting for him. LOL!

On another note, since I am going to RT, look for me to be a roving reporter this week from the trenches of this amazing romance book convention. Hopefully I can provide you some comments from other romance writers, booksellers, readers, the parties, you name it! Also, I’ll be blogging on the RT site on Thursday as well as offering some workshops. I’ll try to get a link for you soon.

Have a great Monday and I’ll keep you posted on my wild times at the convention.

Guilty Pleasures Monday - David Beckham

OMG! I hope you will find this morning’s Guilty Pleasure especially guilty and pleasurable!! David Beckham. Bad boy, badder bod as this Emporio Armani ad demonstrates.

Also, if you haven’t seen BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM (where unfortunately he does not appear in the movie), check it out anyway. It’s a great movie about cultural clashes, male/female roles and racial bias. . . and of course, soccer. Did I mention the movie also features hottie Jonathan Rhys Meyers (currently of THE TUDORS) and a girl crush possibility — Keira Knightley?

As I promised, I chose a winner over the weekend for the Lisa Daily guest blog and give-away! FANNIE is the lucky winner! Could you please e-mail me your postal address?

Hope you all had a great weekend!

P.S. — Thanks to my sis for the inspiration for today’s Guilty Pleasure.

Guilty Pleasures Monday - Alex Garcia from ARDOR CALLS

Alex Garcia, Miami DEA Agent from ARDOR CALLSSo sorry to be late with today’s Guilty Pleasures Monday, only it was quite a weekend! I was busy finishing up A SOLDIER’S SECRET CHILD which will be out from Silhouette Romantic Suspense very soon and getting to work on the proposal for the next book in THE CALLING series — VENGEANCE CALLS (#11 if we count the two novellas!)

Of course, doing the synopsis for that one got me thinking about the two that preceded it. You may remember that bad boy Blake will be the hero in #9 - FURY CALLS. Blake’s been in a number of books already, but had a sexy time with Stacia in DESIRE CALLS, which is still a free read at eharlequin.com.

Stacia is the heroine in #10 — ARDOR CALLS and as you can guess from her various appearances, it’s going to take quite a man to be able to stand up to her and reach her heart after the nearly two millenia that Stacia has been a vampire. The hero in ARDOR CALLS — Alex Garcia — is someone you’ve seen already in DEATH CALLS. He’s Diana ex-love and a Miami DEA Agent.

Alex is sexy and slightly exotic, much like Stacia. He’s also determined and passionate. So far, the sparks are flying in the draft I’ve done and I hope you’ll think so as well when I get the okay to post an excerpt. In the meantime, here’s my idea of what Alex might look like as he takes a dip in the South Beach waters. FYI — this novel in THE CALLING will be set in Miami and I hope you’ll enjoy the tropical change of pace.

Also, for those of you with the Kindle, Amazon has an amazing price on the entire CALLING Collection — 9.99!

Guilty Pleasures Monday - Someone to take the chill off and the last b’day blog winner!

Picture Courtesy of mblnews.deIt’s supposed to be spring, but here in the NY/NJ area, it’s still way too cold. However, the crocuses and daffodils are up and so I have to assume spring is really on the way, although it can’t come soon enough for me.

Because of the cold, I was thinking this morning, what would drive away my chill and so today’s Guilty Pleasure Monday is Josh Holloway from LOST. He would absolutely keep my warm on the coldest winter night. There’s something about that whole bad boy thing and his dimples which is totally hot.

So who would keep you warm on a cold winter night? Inquiring minds would like to know your all time favorite guilty pleasure.

Speaking of LOST, I’m a little upset now that we know who are the Oceanic Six. SPOILER ALERT- don’t keep on reading if you don’t want to know more.

Okay — so I’m so upset I lost two of my favorite guys in the real future world, Sawyer and Jin. What’s with that?

And finally, a little overdue, the last b’day blog winner is Earlene Gillespie! Please e-mail me with your postal address so I can send the prizes. As for all the other winners, I’ll be following up if I haven’t heard from you and also, sending out the prizes in the next week.

Thank you all for sharing my b’day week and visiting the blog!

Guilty Pleasure Monday - Eric Bana and our first blog b’day winner!

Courtesy of ABOUT.COM MOVIES Troy Pictures

I must confess I heard mixed buzz about TROY, but finally gave in and bought the DVD. I so hated Brad Pitt’s role in this movie and nothing about the incredibly buffed bod could make up for it, except . . .

Today’s Guilty Pleasure Eric Bana. He just stole the show! Totally heroic and sexy. I was like WOW! This is a man!!

You can catch Eric now in THE OTHER BOLEYN GIRL with Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johanssen.

What else is up for today? The first winner of this week’s B’day Blog celebration: Alyssa! Happy belated b’day to you as well and I’ll be emailing you to get your book selection and address.
