I’m back from my short road trip to Philadelphia and the talk at Swarthmore College. It’s snowing today and so I’m taking a moment rest, do lots of writing and catch-up work. Read the rest of this entry

Oh the weather outside is frightful . . . Okay so maybe it isn’t so frightful yet, but the cold is definitely here in NYC . . . Well, at least for today. Yesterday felt like spring.
But despite the weather yo-yo, one look around New York City and you know it’s Christmas. Actually, it’s been Christmas since before Thanksgiving since everyone seemed in a rush to get up the holiday decorations. This is a shot of the front of the Lord & Taylor store on Fifth Avenue. During our annual Christmas in the City jaunt, this is one of our must stops to check out the windows. Read the rest of this entry
Today’s Guilty Pleasure is sexy Italian soccer star Fabio Cannavaro! If I had to pick someone that looks like Hadrian in HOLIDAY WITH A VAMPIRE, this Fabio would definitely be the breathtaking bloodsucker. Read the rest of this entry

First, let’s get our minds out of the gutter so we can answer this question correctly.

Bryant Park has been transformed again for the winter! They’ve set up the Citibank Ice Skating Pond over the great lawn. Luckily it’s gotten cold enough to freeze whatever the surface is so people can skate.
They also had something going up yesterday and my sis caught the activity on her way home and sent this picture — snowmaking at Bryant Park so they could film a scene for the upcoming Sex and the City movie. How cool is that? Read the rest of this entry
For a number of years, I’ve done workshops on the state of Latino fiction and as I am going to be doing a number of talks on this topic in the coming year, I wanted to update some aspects of the discussion. It occurred to me that it might be good to broaden the fact-finding to include various kinds of multicultural fiction and not just Latino fiction.
Armed with that intent, I’ve developed a survey (click here to access the survey) as a way of allowing you to offer your opinions on the state of multicultural fiction today. As the survey is intended to reflect current publishing trends, I am asking only published authors or those with books that are to be released shortly, to offer their comments on the survey.
As this is my first attempt at a survey of this nature, I also beg your indulgence if it’s lacking in any way.
Here’s a link to the page with the survey: http://www.caridad.com/state-of-multicultural-fiction/
Feel free to share this link with any other authors that you think might be interested in offering their opinion on this topic.
Thanks so much!
I wracked my brains this weekend thinking about who would be this Monday Guilty Pleasure and then it came to me!
Jorge Ramos who could quite easily slip into the role of Pablo Amenabar, Sylvia’s father from SOUTH BEACH CHICAS CATCH THEIR MAN. The light eyes and lean wiry body (although Pablo might be a little more muscular and not as grey!) Read the rest of this entry
My friend Lois Winston and I spent Friday and Saturday driving to and from Rhode Island where we met the wonderful Rhode Island Romance Writers. It was a blast meeting these delightful women and talking with them about writing. We had lively discussions and great food. The only wonkiness to the whole event was the remnants of Hurricane Noel which hit us on the ride home. Even my low-slung Sebring convertible wobbled with the strong blasts of wind hitting the coast! This Guilty Pleasure Monday is all about Bad Boys with Bite. Today’s favorite is Buffy Bad Boy Spike aka James Marsters.
What is it about Bad Boys with Bite that is so appealing? Well, I met a delightful group of bloggers from Italy who run the Isn’t It Romantic? site and today, I’ll be blogging on that site about Bad Boys with Bite and why we love them. Click here to check out the blog! Read the rest of this entry

It’s almost time for another installment in THE CALLING vampire novels! FATE CALLS is a novella in HOLIDAY WITH A VAMPIRE, a December release for Silhouette Nocturne. If you have ever had the opportunity to see a polo match (or one of pato which I was able to see in Argentina) you know how exciting it is to see an excellent rider atop a horse. The power, skill and strength that’s necessary to do this is well . . . Read the rest of this entry
Ben Affleck gets a bum rap. I’m convinced it all has to do with Gigli and that Bennifer incident a few years back. I first noticed him in SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE (one of my all time favorite movies with another cutie — Joseph Fiennes). Then came DAREDEVIL (which I kind of liked, but then again, I love comic book heroes) and I thought again, I like his looks and he’s got that little boy grin and twinkle in his eye. I was hooked. Cuba has been on my mind lately, maybe because of the Chicas. Maybe because one of my Cuban writing friends e-mailed me a week or so ago to say that the lines from Miami to NJ were buzzing about Castro’s death. (FYI — NJ has the second largest population of Cubans in the U.S.)
Unfortunately, Castro’s death wasn’t confirmed by anyone, but the thought of a Cuba finally free of the old dictator has lingered in my brain. A free Cuba — Cuba Libre. Read the rest of this entry

Well, maybe not totally gone. The tents are down, most of the generators are gone and they’ve begun to disassemble the rest. This is what Bryant Park looked like this morning.
Now, I know the NYT says that most New Yorkers don’t mind losing the park for a week or two, but I for one don’t listen to a thing the NYT says anyway. Read the rest of this entry
The Chicas are on the shelves! I can’t tell you how excited I am about the opportunity to finish the story about Sylvia and Carlos and to introduce to you Virginia and Pablo, Sylvia’s mom and dad, who have their own romance tale in this book. Read the rest of this entry
Hot men come in all ages so today’s Guilty Pleasure is an older man — Hugh Laurie. Most of us know him as House, but for many people, they’ve been watching him in assorted films and shows on the BBC.
There’s something about those blue eyes, rugged look and scruffy beard that is just too attractive. Even my daughter thinks so, confirming the attraction is not limited to us over thirty-year olds.
What do you think? Can you picture Hugh starring in a future novel?
