Ben Affleck gets a bum rap. I’m convinced it all has to do with Gigli and that Bennifer incident a few years back. I first noticed him in SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE (one of my all time favorite movies with another cutie — Joseph Fiennes). Then came DAREDEVIL (which I kind of liked, but then again, I love comic book heroes) and I thought again, I like his looks and he’s got that little boy grin and twinkle in his eye. I was hooked. Cuba has been on my mind lately, maybe because of the Chicas. Maybe because one of my Cuban writing friends e-mailed me a week or so ago to say that the lines from Miami to NJ were buzzing about Castro’s death. (FYI — NJ has the second largest population of Cubans in the U.S.)

Hot men come in all ages so today’s Guilty Pleasure is an older man — Hugh Laurie. Most of us know him as House, but for many people, they’ve been watching him in assorted films and shows on the BBC.

There’s something about those blue eyes, rugged look and scruffy beard that is just too attractive. Even my daughter thinks so, confirming the attraction is not limited to us over thirty-year olds.

Working vacations. An oxymoron if ever there was one, but for me, vacations are a blessing in so many ways.

Obviously there’s the spending time with family, relaxation and discovering something new factor.

During my recent trip to Scotland I had an unusually spooky experience. I was traveling with my good friend Meg, her husband Terry and their daughter Hannah who is 15. Hannah was my travel buddy on this trip and we shared a room in two of the three hotel/guest houses along the way. Now and Again there’s an actor that grab’s your attention from the get-go. Eric Close did that for me in Now and Again (LOL!) There was something boyish, charming and totally drop dead appealing about him. It was a shame that the show that got such acclaim as being the new 6 Million Dollar Man was cancelled. Shamefully, we could also no longer appreciate Eric’s lean physique and Boy-Next-Door good looks.

Luckily, he wasn’t jobless for long and is now a series regular on Without a Trace. I didn’t get into this show at the beginning, but now do not miss the reruns on TNT and the first runs on CBS.

It’s a great ensemble cast, although I wish Sam Spade (yes, that’s Poppy Montgomery’s name on the show) would stop sleeping with most of the men in the cast. Maybe this FBI Agent just needs to find a vamp like Ryder Latimer to stay faithful!

Anyhow, hope you’re enjoying this Guilty Pleasure Monday and if Eric every goes missing without a trace, you’ll know where to look . . .
