One of the fun things about writing a romantic suspense series is changing up the kinds of heroes in the stories. I especially loved Ricky Gonzalez from Brickell Avenue Ambush because he’s the kind of everyman hero that you root for. Ricky doesn’t have any special skills the way a law enforcement or military person might have. He’s actually a psychologist who’s trying to build his practice and only occasionally helps his South Beach Security family on cases. But when he meets Mariela Hernandez, a woman who someone is trying to kill, he’s sucked into a mystery that makes him rise to the occasion and become a real hero. Here is how I pictured Ricky, maybe on a trip to New York? He’s a little on the fashionista side and very laid back.
