Sizzlin’ Stacia in South Beach
After so long, I’m very happy to chat with you about the next book in THE CALLING/REBORN vampire series. KISSED BY A VAMPIRE will be available on October 16 from Harlequin Nocturne.
The heroine in the novel is Stacia, a nearly two thousand year old vampiress who has seen her share of pain and death. She herself experienced it in the days before her wedding when she is turned by her husband-to-be and after, when he enslaves her as she struggles to deal with her new undead life.
Stacia always presented a wealth of contradictions for me. When she first appeared in DEATH CALLS (a 2006 CATAROMANCE Reviewers Choice Winner), you knew she was brash and almost promiscuous as she chased after both Ryder and Diana with equal fervor.
I knew that her sexual pursuit hid a much greater need: To be loved.
That became very apparent in DESIRE CALLS where Stacia and Blake explore their attraction. You can read that story for free by clicking here.
Ever since then, I’ve been trying to find a way to give Stacia her happily-ever-after. There was something about her deep loneliness and the outrageous behavior that she uses to hide it that really called to me. I hope you’ll enjoy her story, KISSED BY A VAMPIRE, when it’s released on October 16.
I also hope you’ll enjoy a slightly different location for KISSED BY A VAMPIRE since I’m moving Stacia’s story to South Beach. It was time for a bit of change from the other Manhattan locales for THE CALLING/REBORN novels.
South Beach was the perfect location for Stacia to meet the man who would challenge her: Sexy DEA Agent Alex Garcia. You might also remember Alex from DEATH CALLS. Alex is Diana’s ex-lover and the events from their brief reunion in New York have had a lasting effect on Alex. KISSED BY A VAMPIRE is as much Alex’s story as it is Stacia’s and I hope you will love this honorable and caring man as much as I do.
I also had another reason for setting the story in South Beach — I’ve been there a few times and wanted to share with you the feel of the sizzling South Beach strip. To get you in the mood, here are some photos of the area where Stacia and Alex will meet and face danger as they fall in love.
I’ll be sharing more Behind the Scenes photos and history with you as we approach the release of KISSED BY A VAMPIRE!
Free Read THE CLAIMED Paranormal Romance
Sharing a sexy excerpt from THE CLAIMED with you this morning! In this scene, Christopher and Victoria have had their first real encounter. Now Victoria is dealing with the aftermath of her affinity to Christopher and the fact that she is too attracted to someone who should be her mortal enemy.
If you can’t see the excerpt below, you can click here to read it!
What are your favorite romance hooks?
There are some tried and true romance hooks from which we can create fun stories. Today I’m sharing some of my favorites (and not so favorites) and I hope you’ll chime in and offer your two cents.
As you may guess from my books, Opposites Attract kind of thing, or in my case, the kick-ass heroine out to tame the alpha hero, is one of my all-time favorites.
-
Marriage of convenience
A slight twist on a classic – the geeky guy blossoms into the hottie everyone wants
The arranged marriage (look for that in the follow-up book to THE PRINCE’S GAMBLE – July 2012)
Millionaire playboy (and toss in some royalty to that in THE PRINCE’S GAMBLE)
The love triangle (got a bit of this going on with a little menage in THE VAMPIRE’S CONSORT)
Reunited lovers
Military themes
One of the ones I find hardest to like is the secret baby story. Yes, yes, I did write one of those (SOLDIER’S SECRET CHILD) and I have to confess that it took me nearly a month just to figure out how to justify not telling someone about the baby and how to craft a believable and yet emotional response from the hero to the revelation that he had a teenage son!
So what are your favorite and not so favorite romance hooks?
Free Read THE FIFTH KINGDOM Romantic Suspense
One of my favorite books that I’ve written is THE FIFTH KINGDOM, a romantic suspense story that I did for Carina Press. There was something about the hero, CIA Agent Bill Santana, that hooked me from the moment he showed up on the pages. Add to that a heroine who is so not ready for love much less adventure, toss in some ancient ruins and a kidnapping and the story just came alive for me.
Here’s what RT Book Reviews had to say about THE FIFTH KINGDOM:
RT Book Reviews: 4.5 Stars, ““This story is an Indiana Jones-style thrill ride infused with just the right amount of romance and sexual tension…The mystery, the family dynamic and the love story all blend together perfectly in this delightful adventure. Who needs Harrison Ford when you’ve got a tale like this?â€
Also check out RT’s Morgan and Whitney as they dish about the book by clicking here!
For now, I’ll leave you with this free read. This scene is just after someone has tried to grab the heroine, Deanna, from in front of the prep school where she teaches. Bill has taken her to a safe house, but was injured during the kidnapping attempt when he was shot. Luckily his vest stopped the bullet, but he is still feeling the impact of it. In this scene, Bill and Deanna start to feel attraction growing between them.

Violet Jordan Rule #2 of being a superhero: Find reliable sidekicks
Dear Diary,
Once I took down Haverty, the Primo of the city, I thought life was going to get better. After four assassination attempts, I’m thinking not so much. Haverty’s pack needs a new leader and I’ve just about run out of reasons why I’m not right for the job. Besides, having loyal followers would definitely help me fight off whoever’s out for my blood. Especially since my boyfriend is always busy playing White Hat to every Wanderer except me.
So now I just need to figure out how to mentor new shifters, run a pack, keep my “real” job, and have some sort of personal life. I guess it’s all in a day’s work for this writer-by-day / panther-by-night.
Excerpt
Chaz put the glass into the sink and reached out to pull me to him. “Tonight, I get you. Sacred Destinies be damned.â€
“Oh, please don’t say that.â€
Now that the words were out in the air, I was looking into every shadow and jumping at every random noise, just sure that is was another attack. I winced through stop lights on the way to the restaurant and jumped at a slammed car door in the parking lot.
“We’ve been out before,†he said as he opened the car door. “Even if something does happen, then we will take care of it together.â€
I sighed. “Guess I can’t argue with that.â€
He wrapped my arm around his as we walked into the restaurant. It was just a family style place, nothing special. I had suggested something populated. Using a crowd as a shield had become part of the life recently, which meant that usually we had screaming children running around us at romantic dinners.
We were seating and as usual, I got the seat with the kid on the other side kicking my booth.
“Its not exactly Nine steakhouse, I know, but…â€
It finally clicked: the date offer and his newly washed jeans. “Is this an anniversary dinner?â€
The corner of his mouth turned upwards. “Maybe. Try again.â€
I looked around at the red glittery décor and my face hit my palm. “Valentine’s day? Chaz, I would have suggested something a little more …â€
He laughed. “It’s okay. Almost past me by as well. I’m just glad that we’re together.â€
I sighed and looked through my fingers. “I suppose that we do have that to celebrate.â€
The kid kicked the seat again.
As soon as the waitress took our drink orders, both our cell phones rang.
We both sighed and reach for our respective phones.
“Hello,†I answered to the unknown number. Might as well, right? Not like any one can kill me through a phone, but that was a pretty good movie idea.
“Miss Jordan, its Tucker Briggs.â€
I turned away from Chaz when I recognized the voice. “Tucker? What can I do for you?â€
The kid behind me kicked the seat again and I frowned.
“I wanted to see if we were meeting on Sunday like you said.â€
“That was the plan. Did Shadow find you?â€
“Yes, Ma’am.
“Are you guys okay?â€
“Fine. He also told us of your kindness.â€
I snorted. “I gave him leftovers.â€
“You don’t understand Miss Jordan…â€
I couldn’t let him finish. “Tucker Briggs. Take care of yourself for the next two days and you can explain it to me then.â€
The kid kicked my booth for the fourth time, and then a tuff of yellow hair stuck out around the edge of the booth.
“Good bye, Tucker.â€
I snapped the phone closed and stuck my head around the edge of the booth to be nose to nose with the little tyke with a foot like Landon Donovan. Just for an instant, I let the panther slip through into my eyes and let out a little growl.
The little boy slipped back into his booth and began to cry. Satisfied, I went back to looking at my boyfriend.
Chaz stared back at me with an arched eyebrow.
“What?†I asked innocently.
He leaned across the table and dropped his voice. “I don’t think that the Powers gave you this gift to scare children.â€
The family behind me got up and took their screaming child with them, leaving Chaz and I alone in this small section of the restaurant.
“I’d like to think that I have earned having a quiet dinner with my boyfriend.â€
About Amanda
Amanda was born in Illinois, raised in Corpus Christi, lives in Dallas but her heart lies in London. Good thing she loves to travel.
During the summer after second grade, she read every book in the young adult section of the library, much to the surprise of the local librarian. So she started making up her own stories and hasn’t stopped.
She has a husband who fights crime, one dog who thinks he’s a real boy, and another who might be a fruit bat in disguise. She spends her weekends writing at coffee shops, practicing for the day that caffeine intake becomes an Olympic sport, and plotting character demises with fellow writers Wolvarez, Killer Cupcake and Keith (names have been changed to protect the not-so-innocent).
Random Facts:
Amanda is adopted and loves to share that story with others to promote adoption.
Amanda has a collection of turtle figurines that collects on her travels.
Amanda has a strange love of cheesy horror movies. She prefers demons and witchcraft to slasher films.
Amanda is a really good bowler and completely rocks at croquet.

Switching it up – Mina and Caridad Trading Places (kind of)
We’re doing a little switching up today! I’ve got my friend Mina Khan visiting today and sharing her wonderful new release and I’m visiting The Naked Hero to talk about Rey Peralta from AMAZON AWAKENING!
So please switch it up by dropping by The Naked Hero to visit with me and by checking out Mina’s wish list for Christmas!
How About A Genie for Christmas?
I think a djinn or genie would be the perfect Christmas gift! Of course, I’m biased as I wrote about a sexy djinn assassin – Rukh O’Shay– in my recent paranormal romance release, THE DJINN’S DILEMMA.
But think about it…
- 1. A genie can grant wishes and is a present that can keep on giving. Some, like Rukh, can grant your heart’s most hidden desires.
2. A genie can take anywhere around the world, without the hassles of security, passport or cramped seats in airplanes, trains or vehicles. Rukh can melt into shadows and fly through the ethereal plane.
3. A powerful genie can protect you from the bad guys.
4. They can appear an instant! Rukh surprised the heroine in the shower, and he can be on your eReader with one click!
5. I don’t know about other genies, but Rukh tastes like dark chocolate. A sexy djinn is just what you’d want to heat up cold winter nights.
How hot is how?
Here’s an excerpt to give you a taste!
- Oh heaven and hell, stop with the tears. Given the day Sarah had just had, the tears were logical. But watching her face crumple, hearing the gut-deep harsh sobs, filled Rukh with an irrational need to pull her into his arms, wrap her in a hug.
As soon as the urge had gelled into conscious thought, his essence hardened into visibility and his arms slid up around her shivering, wet body.
Sarah’s eyes popped open and she staggered back with a yell.
His arms tightened around her, steadying her, keeping her close. Well, shit. At least, she’d stopped crying.
Fear-bright green eyes stared at him instead.
Given he was an assassin, sent to kill her, her response was natural, even intelligent. Yet, bitterness churned in his gut at the thought of her fearing him. “It’s okay,†he whispered. “You’re safe.â€
“Am I hallucinating?†Her question came out as a croak.
“Yes, yes you are.†That seemed a much better answer than the truth.
She pinned him with her dark, direct gaze. “You’re just a figment of my imagination. A fantasy?â€
“Yes.†He didn’t dare move.
“Then why are you still wearing clothes?â€
He made the clothes disappear and stood there as naked as her. Skin against skin, the heat from her body melted into his. Warm water washed over them like rain.
So in the spirit of the season…
Genie bells, genie bells
Genie all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
A Genie all daaaaay! 🙂
