Fun Friday

So sorry that I missed our first Thursday Thirteen, but I was off to the airport at 4 a.m. for a business trip. I am so whooped today!

But I am looking forward to a fun weekend down the shore and with my friends at the Liberty States Fiction Writers. This Saturday is our August Movie Day and we’re going to spend some time together deconstructing and analyzing the brilliant new Star Trek movie.

Now I have to confess I grew up watching the Star Trek series and loved some of the new shows. But even if you’ve never watched a Star Trek episode, you’ve got to love this movie. The characters are fascinating and the story line is compelling. It’s also amazing to see how J.J. Abrams basically rebooted the franchise with this adaptation of the original history in the series.

I’m happy we chose this movie to analyze because it has so much to offer both aspiring and veteran writers!

Fast Food Friday!

I don’t know about you, but Fridays are typically Fast Food Fridays in my house. After a long week of work, it’s time to kick up our feet, forget the diet (ack – lifestyle change!) and relax! What better way than to allow someone else to do the cooking?

Most Fridays in the summer are Five Guys Fridays. Awesome burgers made fresh on the spot with your choice of 15 – yes FIFTEEN – free toppings you can put on your burger!

You’ve got your choice of Mayo, Relish, Onions, Lettuce, Pickles, Tomatoes, Grilled Onions, Grilled Mushrooms, Ketchup, Mustard, Jalapeno, Peppers, Green Peppers, A-1 Sauce, Bar-B-Q Sauce, or Hot Sauce.

Wish I could think up a jingle to rattle all those off.

And let’s not forget Five Guys Fries. Totally awesome. Fried in peanut oil.

You can become a Five Guys Fanatic and download some wallpapers at the site. I decided to bling mine with a little topping of Caridad! Hope they don’t mind.

Crazy Weekend!

I hope you all had a great Memorial Day weekend and also had a chance to honor the men, women and families of our military people.

I spent the weekend running around as my baby came home from school and we had an accidental new addition to the family! We came home and found a baby squirrel in our driveway. It was disoriented and had a bloody nose. We didn’t know how long it had been on the hot blacktop.

One of our neighbors is a real animal person, so she helped us, but was not sure it would survive. We gave it water and made a little nest for it. In the meantime, we went in search of its nest and/or mom.

We had a close call with reuniting it with its mommy, but sadly the baby was in danger of attack from other wildlife. We’ve been feeding it formula and keeping it warm. It’s finally opened its eyes and is alert, but we’re trying to track down a rehabilitator who knows what to do with it.

If anyone is in the Central NJ area and knows of one, that would be greatly appreciated.

Besides that, I spent a lot of time working on the new books and also snuck in a barbeque with friends and family.

Fun Friday – Contest Winner!

I want to thank all of you who dropped by on Wednesday to wish Rene Colato good luck with his wonderful children’s book! It was much appreciated.

Also – many many thanks for all the b’day wishes! I had a great day that weekend as well as last weekend when we had our first ever Liberty States Fiction Writers conference. I had a wonderful time and met so many nice people.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. Here in the NY/NJ Metro area we are getting a glimpse of our first taste of Spring! Bulbs are coming up, crocuses are in bloom and we’re supposed to have weather in the 60s. I so can’t wait!!

Fun Friday – Aly & AJ

If I’m a little hard of hearing at times, blame all those Jonas Brothers concerts I went to with my darling daughter! Not that I didn’t like them, because I did. I’m just convinced that if the military could somehow package the screams of teenaged girls, they would have the most effective weapons known to mankind.

But besides enjoying the Jonas Brothers, I had the good fortune that we saw them when they were the backup band to Aly & AJ. I liked their music so much, my daughter got one of their albums for my Ipod. It’s perfect music for my workouts and I thought I’d share one of my favorites (video with all those cute surfer dudes makes it possibly better!).

This video apparently created enough of a stir with PETA to make it onto CNN and Fox News. I thought it was a fun parody of the old Whack’a Mole arcade game and it doesn’t look as if the kittens were being hurt in any way.
